Habitat Creation, Hackney Marshes

The overall environmental strategy was to create new habitat areas to attract a diverse range of wildlife and visitors to the Marshes whilst maintaining  the council's commitment to increasing biodiversity in the borough.

The works included:

  • Seeding 2 hectares of diversified grasslands.
  • Planting 4000 trees.
  • Planting 20,000 native spring bulbs.
  • Installing 30 bat boxes and 30 bird boxes within existing woodland.
  • Installing timber steps and benches.
  • Creating forest bark paths.
  • Designing and installing a bird hide.
  • Continued maintenance.
