Plans have been agreed for the construction of an offshore wind farm, approximately 32km off the north Norfolk coast. The windfarm will be fully operational at the end of 2017, and will generate enough ‘green’ electricity to power more than 410,000 UK homes each year.
The construction of an onshore electrical connection, comprising a buried cable system running between the landfall point and a new electrical substation, is now under way.
Thomson Habitats, working with Thomson Ecology, has assisted Carillion Utilities with the enabling works on site. These have involved ecological walkover surveys and ecological watching briefs. Great crested newt mitigation works across 19 meta populations, as well as water vole mitigation works have been undertaken and in some cases are still ongoing. When this is all complete, the client will be able to move forward with the development works.
