Recruitment

We are looking to recruit

temporary fieldworkers

Starting July 08, initially for 4 weeks, near Basildon, Essex.

Starting pay will be from £5.60/hour plus allowance for holiday.

Hours on site will be 0730 - 1700 Mon - Fri with optional extra hours.

The overall contract is to trap and move wildlife from a large development site to a nearby receptor site before major civil engineering works begin. Thomson Habitats will carry out the physical work of installing barriers and traps and enhancing the wildlife habitats in the receptor sites.

The first stage is installing amphibian fencing and pitfall traps. This will involve fixing plastic to fence posts, filling in a small trench and fixing buckets into the ground. Full training will be given, but applicants with relevant experience and qualifications in using excavators or other site equipment would be at an advantage.

Initially you could expect 4 weeks’ work, but this could develop into more work over the summer and beyond.

based in S. Essex

to start a.s.a.p.

We are an ecological contracting company focussing on wildlife mitigation projects. We try to balance, on the one hand, clients’ needs to move ahead fast with their development plans and, on the other, a genuine sensitivity to wildlife and seasonal constraints. We are backed by the technical expertise of our sister company, Thomson Ecology, a leading, and probably the fastest growing, independent ecology consultancy in the UK.  See our websites www.thomsonhabitats.com and www.thomsonecology.com

Typical contracts involve many protected species including great crested newts, reptiles, water voles, badgers, bats and invertebrates. We carry out the practical tasks such as installing exclusion fencing and traps, creating ponds and ditches, planting shrubs and moving rare plants. The first project involves creating a number of large ponds with associated amphibian habitat.

Suitable applicants will be good communicators, personable, assertive, well-organised and aware of detail, practically minded and IT literate. They will have an awareness of contractual and financial issues, experience in supervising construction work and, ideally an interest in ecology. Duties will include people and resource management, client liaison and an ability to work under pressure.

If you are interested, please send your c.v. with a covering letter and an indication of your salary expectations to mike.rennie@thomsonhabitats.com

No agencies, please.
